Windwalker Prepot Ritual

Prepotting means to use use two DPS-increasing potions during one bossfight. We use one potion before we enter combat, as there is a "per battle"-cooldown on potions, and then we are free to use another potion later in the fight, preferably together with Heroism. Trinkets tend to proc early in the fights, so we're able to benefit from both.

With patch 5.2, both the unused and used Tigereye Brew-stacks are reset when a boss is pulled. The following purple text is now incorrect:

As a Windwalker monk there is a particular good reason to use a prepot-macro; all of our Tigereye Brew-stacks are reset when we enter combat with a raid boss. Which means rushing tanks that don't care to count down before they pull is gonna be something we quickly learn to hate. Don't even get me started on trying to time this in Raid Finder... If tanks are nice and count down before they pull, we can make use of those juicy stacks and start the fight with a solid KA-POW!

Depending on if we're pulling the boss right after trash, or if we're running in after a wipe, I try to either maintain or build up my Tigereye Brew stacks.

Charging Mah Lazerz-macro (out of date after 5.2 launched)

Name of macro taken from Ponder, who has real lasers that he charges before every pull. I don't know what it means, it's some sort of boomkin-thing.

/castsequence [target=player] Expel Harm, Chi Wave (replace Chi Wave with Zen Sphere if you use that)

I "spam" this macro as we run in from a wipe, while we buff up and while we discuss tactics. Actually, I don't really spam it, cause Expel Harm has a 15 sec cooldown. But I keep using the macro up until the pull. Each Expel Harm gives me 2 Chi, which is the cost of one Chi Wave. To build one Tigereye Brew stack I need to spend 4 Chi. The limiting factor here is the cooldown of Expel Harm. This is how long it takes to build stacks:

1 stack = 15 sec
2 stacks = 45 sec
3 stacks = 75 sec
10 stacks = 285 sec = almost 5 mins

Don't feel too sad if you don't get 10 stacks before the fight starts, at least any number is better than zero.

Prepot-macro

Pull timer! 3...

2... I use this macro, which activates Tigereye Brew and Virmen's Bite (or Kafa Press if you're lazy, cheap, forgetful or you're just on some boring farm content):

#showtooltip Tigereye Brew
/console Sound_EnableSFX 0
/run UIErrorsFrame:Hide()
/use Virmen's Bite
/use Kafa Press
/cast Tigereye Brew
/console Sound_EnableSFX 1
/run UIErrorsFrame:Clear(); UIErrorsFrame:Show()

1... Pulling! I use this macro, which activates "on use"-trinkets and Xuen:

#showtooltip Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger
/console Sound_EnableSFX 0
/run UIErrorsFrame:Hide()
/use 13
/use 14
/cast Tigereye Brew
/cast Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger
/console Sound_EnableSFX 1
/run UIErrorsFrame:Clear(); UIErrorsFrame:Show()

Two things to be careful of: 1) Don't be too close to any enemies when you cast Chi Wave, and 2) nukefest in the start of a fight might get you unwanted attention (=aggro). Sure, your DPS will be awsome the 2 secs you are alive, but remember that on most fights what really matters is "total damage done". ;) Take it easy!

If anyone has any other cool little tips to increase DPS or when to use a cooldown etc, please share!

Hunter Sidenote

In Cataclysm there was a hunter-specific prepotting routine that involved 1) summoning pet 1, 2) using Call of the Wild, 3) dismiss pet 1, 4) summon pet 2, 5) use potion and 6) pull. In Mists we don't have to do this anymore, as Call of the Wild was removed. Instead they added a billion other cooldowns to the hunters. ;)

    1. I was never gone. Although admittedly less frequent... :-)

      Sigh, with patch 5.2, this post is already out of date, lol.

      I'm staying monk for now, but my hunter will forever be in my heart you know. ;-)
